Today Rising Africa, in collaboration with Coca Cola proudly introduce you to a very passionate social entrepreneur and talented young lady by name Freda Nyame. Freda, a 24 year old graduate of University of Ghana, holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in psychology and Archaeology.

She is the Founder and Executive Director of Inspiring Young Achievers Network (IYAN) Africa, which was formally known as Inspiring Youth Achievement Ghana. IYAN is a Non-Governmental Organization formally launched in November 2014. It seeks to, nurture and transform the youth of Africa with relevant support and empowerment to achieve their goals, through key strategies such as mentorship programs, provision of educational materials and infrastructure, self-development workshops and networking opportunities.

Freda is also an Associate Fellow of The Royal Commonwealth Society, and has been named as one of the 2016 Top 100 Youth Entrepreneurs by the SYENet-Student Youth Entrepreneurial Network. She is also recognised as one of the 50 Impacting Young Female Leaders in Africa by OneWorld Organisation in Cameroon with support from Cameroon StartUp Academy and Joss Magazine. She was shortlisted among 30 Nominees for MTN Heroes of Change in Ghana in December 2016 and was an active member of AIESEC: a world-wide group of young people trying to break stereotypes and develop themselves into proactive leaders. She has equally volunteered to teach young children English and the Ghanaian Culture in Russia under one of AIESEC Ghana’s volunteering programs. She was a Team Leader for Balloon Ventures Ghana International Citizen Service (ICS) from March- June 2017, and is celebrated as one of the 60 Young Achievers in Ghana by Coca-Cola.

Freda has always believed and loved to make an impact on society; this underpins her Organization’s vision, which is, “To be the top notch youth oriented foundation in Africa to bridge the educational gap between the youth from well-served communities and those from under-served Communities.” Their mission is to help the youth discover their potentials, Inspire and support them, to become great leaders who would also follow the pattern of societal transformation.

The main objective of this Organization is to provide both volunteers and community members with a positive learning experience, to mentor the youth and provide communities with educational materials as well as infrastructure to ignite the passion and interest of the youth towards education. IYAN Africa also seeks to develop the employable skills in the youth and most importantly educate, Inspire, encourage and motivate these young ones and school dropouts to go back to school.

The foundation is currently running a country wide tour dubbed the “IYAN INITIATIVE” formerly the “INSPYA TRAIN”. This initiative is to promote Goal 4 of the UN’s (Sustainable Development Goals) SDGs which is Quality Education. The four major projects undertaken include the “The Asesewa, Sompre, Hin-Assin and Ho Impact Projects” which took place in four regions in Ghana partnering other Organizations in Ghana. These projects touched the lives of over 10,000 Children, Parents and Teachers. There were activities such as donation of educational materials, clothes, Black board painting, mentoring and coaching, health screening, hand washing exercises, and Training of school dropouts in liquid soap production.

Another project ongoing is the construction of a youth center in the Wassa Amenfi Central district of the western region in Ghana, which will be officially inaugurated in November 2017. The center will serve as a library for over 1000 students and a workshop for the young and old to acquire skills in the production of Liquid soap, tie and dye and scented candles, to reduce the unemployment rate in the country. Four Beneficiaries are also being sponsored through School

Through the innovative ideas of Freda and her passionate team, three other projects, THE BACK TO SCHOOL PROJECT, THE GIRL CHILD EDU PROJECT, and THE EDUTAINMENT FAIR are ongoing.

The back to school project seeks to supports school dropouts and brilliant but needy students who require the necessary support and mentorship to successfully complete their Education; The Girl-Child Edu Project endeavour to offer mentorship and in-depth career counselling to female students of Senior High Schools and also aims at inspiring female students to appreciate the value of Girl-Child Education. The project will instill in female students, the relevance of volunteerism and social development. The Edutainment Fair is a fun packed event involving, series of activities such as educational drama which will entertain and educate the children. The fair is specially designed to inspire children in various orphanages to maximize their potentials in achieving their highest ambitions in life.

Freda and her team have achieved a lot, to positively impact the Ghanaian society.  She has a heart of volunteerism and a high sense of responsibility which has translated in her passionate and zealous initiatives geared towards improving the image of her country. She is a great example to the youth, especially females.

Ghana must learn, support and commend the incredible actions of such selfless individuals.
